“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Proverbs 16:9 NIV
Recently, I traveled from Kearney, Nebraska to Chattanooga, Tennessee for a “Building Leaders, Authors, Speakers and Teachers – Next Level” workshop. But my travel plans did not go the way I had hoped.
As I arrived at the Grand Island airport, an hour from home, I quickly learned my flight to Dallas was delayed by 2-3 hours due to weather around Dallas (heavy rain). So in discussing the situation with the ticket agent, I decided to get to Dallas yet that day, and then reschedule to fly on to Chattanooga the next morning by way of Charlotte, North Carolina.
I cancelled my motel reservation for that night in Chattanooga, grateful the motel did not require a cancelation fee! Thank you Lord. Then found a motel in Dallas and made the reservation.
I arrived safely in Dallas more than three hours after planned arrival. I made my way to the motel, had a short night of sleep and was back on the shuttle at 4:50 am to catch my 7:10 am flight to Charlotte. On the shuttle, I had a great conversation with a couple from Alaska. She is a social worker who is an expert with the ACE assessment. She expressed an interest in reading my book some day. So we swapped business cards.
I flew to Charlotte with no delays or problems. With a two hour layover, I got some lunch and then went to my gate. It was soon announced our flight would be delayed in leaving because the flight attendants had not yet arrived.
In the mean time, an older woman sat next to me and we started to visit. She asked where I was going and why. I shared I was on my way to a speaker and writers workshop. She quickly shared she had written a book, I’m Still Standing by Jeanette Bradley.

Her story relates to being set free from sex trafficking; having come to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She is now helping others gain freedom from being in this horrible bondage. I shared with her my desire to write a book about my own journey of gaining freedom from my porn addiction. She stated she also had looked at porn.
I quickly realized I was speaking to a real woman who was on the other side of the computer screen. Another healing step in my journey. I know that God ordained this connection that we met to help each other continue to heal.
The 25 hour trip was all because God made sure the two of us met to share our stories with each other. At no point in this 25 hour trip did I feel anxious. I was at peace knowing my workshop did not start until 4 pm. I arrived at the workshop with an hour to spare.
I praise God for establishing my steps!
Good Post Carol! And I for one are so glad you made it to our Next Level Conference.
You are such a blessing…
